Set in a superb 62 acre campus, shared with its Preparatory School, Clayesmore is a co-educational boarding and day school. The Senior School has 194 boys and 118 girls from 13 to 18, with a further 192 pupils in the Preparatory School (7-13) and 58 in the Pre-preparatory Department (3-7, day only).
Three out of four Senior pupils are boarders, and the School offers a high standard of pastoral care. There are three boys' boarding Houses and two for girls. Teaching members of staff act as Housemaster or Housemistress for each House; each is assisted by a resident Tutor and a part-time Matron. Chapel services follow the tradition of the Church of England, but the School welcomes pupils of other faiths.
The A Level pass rate in 1997 was 84%. Class sizes average 18, less in the Sixth Form. Nineteen subjects are studied to GCSE, including Latin and two Modern Languages, Computing, Food and Nutrition, Textiles, Pottery, Design and Realisation, and Graphical Communication. Most can be taken to A level. Nearly one-third of pupils are Sixth Formers; most will go on to university. For those with learning difficulties help is provided in Maths and English.
Among the usual societies and hobbies, there is a Combined Cadet Force and many take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Music, Art and Drama are strong, and much attention is paid to Careers guidance.
Main games are rugby, hockey, and cricket for boys, hockey, netball and tennis for girls. Athletics, squash, badminton, basketball, swimming, shooting, golf, and sailing are also offered. The School has a magnificent Sports Centre on site and leisure opportunities are unrivalled among schools of Clayesmore's size.
